PAWEL KWIATKOWSKI - Foco
Medium: Collography
| Dimensions: 120 x 80 cm
| Year: 2017
ARTWORK FORMAL DESCRIPTION
Print, vertically-oriented, illustrating two male representations, who occupy most of the medium. They are wearing dark clothing and are in a profile position, facing to the left. The male in the foreground rests his left arm on a chair and has his hand closed in front of his face; with his left hand, he holds the chair's arm. The figure in the background occupies the left part of the frame. Faces, arms, and background display marks with scratches and smudges. The body masses in the center of the print are of dark hues. The printing is composed of contrasts between black and white.
THE ARTWORK
Pawel usually addresses crowds in his works, drawing inspiration from the flow of passersby in large urban centers, seeking to create a reference of the modern man, always portraying figures engaged in ordinary situations of a typical day in any big city. In "Foco", the main attribute is the minimalist form of the individual, very isolated in the spaces in which they are; oblivious to the outside world, they seem thoughtful and reflective, focused on their thoughts. Like his other prints, this one questions one's loneliness lost in the oceanic immensity of crowds.
FOR REFLECTION
With this suggestive title, Pawel highlights in this print the allegory of the man concentrated in his inner world, which we can relate directly to the new moment we are living. The remote classes and courses, now part of the new reality of schools and universities, is a great challenge to our sense of focus and concentration. The image is also an invitation to meditation. It invites us to disconnect from external references that we are used to and dive into ourselves, to know ourselves better. Finally, Pawel's work defies our adaptation to the new challenges that life presents to us.
TECHNIQUE – COLLOGRAPHY
It is a technique of gluing objects to the matrix, usually made of cardboard, wood, or plastic, using glue and pasting fabrics, objects, lace, and leaves to add texture to the print. The technique allows the reproduction of different shapes and forms.
